‘HOW TO PASS VERBAL REASONING TESTS’

How to pass Verbal Reasoning TestsPass Verbal Reasoning Tests

Verbal reasoning tests are used widely by employers during assessment centres in order to select the right person(s) for the job. They are particularly common during selection processes for careers that require an ability to communicate both verbally and in written format with customers or clients.

There is a very strong possibility that you will encounter verbal reasoning test questions during your assessment, therefore, it is crucial that you prepare yourself fully in the weeks and days building up to the test.

This comprehensive CD ROM is packed full of sample verbal reasoning test questions that are guaranteed to help you score high in your assessment.

Let’s take a look at a sample verbal reasoning test question which is of a basic level:

Verbal Reasoning Test Question 1

The following sentence has one word missing. Which word makes the best sense of the sentence?

He had been ____________ for hours and was starting to lose his concentration.

A. studying

B. sleeping

C. complaining

D. walk

E. targeting

The correct answer of course is A, as this word makes the sentence complete, whereas the other options do not make sense.

And here’s another one…

Verbal Reasoning Test Question 2

The following sentence has 2 words missing. Which two words make best sense of the sentence?

The man ____________ to walk along the beach with his dog. He threw the stick and the dog _________ it.

A. hated/chose

B. decided/wanted

C. liked/chased

D. hurried/chased

E. hated/loved

The answer to this questions is C as this option is the only one where both words fit perfectly into the sentence.

The two questions above are very basic in their difficulty, however, they are an excellent example of the type of questions you will encounter during your verbal reasoning tests.

How to pass verbal reasoning tests

The majority of candidates who pass their test have a number of common factors. These are as follows:

1. They believe in themselves.

The first factor is self-belief. Regardless of what anyone tells you, you can pass your verbal reasoning test with very high scores. You just need to practise and make sure that you fully understand the questions. Make sure you have the self-belief to pass the tests and fill your mind with positive thoughts.

2. Aim for speed and accuracy.

The second factor is speed and accuracy. In the build up to this type of test the majority of people will only concentrate on answering as many questions as possible in the available time limit. Once they see the clock ticking down they generally panic and guess the final questions. This is all well and good if the test administrator does not deduct marks for incorrect answers. However, during modern day tests the assessor WILL deduct marks for wild guessing.

Be sure to practise both speed and accuracy during your preparation.
